The Oil of Gladness
General Info
What is a ‘Professional’?
We consider someone to be a ‘professional’ if they have completed full-time education (whether school, college, or university) and are now in the working or vocational stage of life. You don not need to be currently employed to attend.
What is the age range?
We welcome those roughly between 25 and 47, but we’re flexible. If you are outside this range and feel this event is for you, please get in touch.
Can married people attend?
Yes. The event is open to all Orthodox young professionals, regardless of marital status. Please note that accommodation is in single-sex dorms.
Can children come?
We are not currently able to accommodate children overnight at this event. They are welcome to attend with a parent/guardian using a day ticket.
Travel & Accommodation
What is the accommodation like?
Accommodation is provided on-site in single-sex dormitories, with both shared (2–3 per room) and limited single rooms available.
How do I get there by car or public transport?
Milton Abbey School is located in the village of Milton Abbas, Dorset. It’s accessible via the A354 and about 20 minutes from Dorchester and Blandford. The nearest train stations are Dorchester North, Poole, and Gillingham. Taxis are available locally.
Are car shares or lifts available?
We will do our best to coordinate transport and car shares, especially from nearby stations, but cannot guarantee availability.
Are there nearby airports?
Yes. Bournemouth, Southampton, Bristol, and Exeter are all nearby.
Packing & Logistics
What should I bring?
Closer to the event, we will provide a full packing list. For now, think: church clothes, warm layers, comfortable shoes, rainwear, toiletries, and something for fellowship (games, instruments, snacks).
What should I wear?
Clothing should be comfortable but respectful. Please bring suitable attire for services, including Divine Liturgy. There will be a semi-formal dinner on the final evening.
Can I smoke or drink alcohol?
Smoking is not permitted on the premises. Alcohol may be consumed responsibly in dormitories only and by those of legal age.
Meals & Dietary Needs
Are dietary needs accommodated?
Yes. We aim to provide for allergies and dietary restrictions, as long as you inform us in advance via the registration form.
Money Matters
Is financial assistance available?
We do have a limited support fund. Please indicate your request on the form and we will follow up individually.
Can I get a refund if I cancel?
Unfortunately, tickets are non-refundable. However, transfers are allowed if you notify us of the replacement attendee in advance.
